EMC/SI/PI Seminar in San Diego

We are pleased to invite you to “EMC/SI/PI Seminar in San Diego” a seminar which will take place on Friday, May 13th from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at Radisson Suite Hotel Rancho Bernardo. The seminar is free to attend.

We are honored to have Prof. Ege Engin from San Diego State University as our guest speaker. He will be presenting “Electromagnetic Simulation for Power Integrity: From Analysis to Design” We also are fortunate to have Dr. Takashi Harada with NEC from Japan as our guest speaker. He will be presenting “Understanding EMI Suppression Mechanism by Visualization of Electromagnetic Field” We will also have vendor speakers, Bob Carter from Oak-Mitsui Technologies and Yoshi Fukawa from TechDream.

Abstract:

“1. Electromagnetic Simulation for Power Integrity: From Analysis to Design”
Prof. Ege Engin : Professor, San Diego State University

There has been a remarkable progress in electromagnetic simulation tools for power integrity. Current approaches can now model power delivery networks in a much broader frequency range compared to the lumped single-node approach. Customized algorithms for electromagnetic simulation of power and ground planes provide adequate accuracy without the prohibitive computational complexity of full-wave generic electromagnetic simulators. Power delivery network (PDN) design has been mostly accomplished by trial-and-error approaches based on these fast analysis algorithms. New approaches for automated design are necessary. This requires a proper problem definition, in terms of what is a good PDN, as well as efficient algorithms that allow synthesis of the PDN based on the goal function. In this talk we will discuss new design algorithms that can provide sensitivity of the PDN impedance with respect to design variables, allow incremental simulation for what-if scenarios, and capture the impact of the variability of the material properties on the performance of the PDN.

“2. Understanding EMI Suppression Mechanism by Visualization of Electromagnetic Field”
Dr. Takashi Harada : NEC Corporation

The developing of the electromagnetic measurement and simulation technologies can visualize the electromagnetic fields and its behaviors. By using these technologies, we can understand the physical mechanisms of EMI occurrence factors which relied on a sense of experience and rule of thumb. This presentation describes the fundamental concept of the EMI suppressing technologies with the help of these visualization technologies.

Guest Speakers:

Prof. Ege Engin
San Diego State University

Dr. Engin is the recipient of the Semiconductor Research Corporation Inventor Recognition Award in 2009. He has co-authored publications that received the Outstanding Poster Paper Award in the Electronic Components and Technology Conference (ECTC) 2006, Best Paper Award Finalist in the Board-Level Design Category at DesignCon 2007, and Best Paper of the Session Award in IMAPS Advanced Technology Workshop on RF and Microwave Packaging 2009.

Dr. Takashi Harada
NEC Corporation

He received his M.E. degrees in electrical engineering from Tokyo Metropolitan University, Tokyo, Japan in 1983. He received his PhD. from The University of Electro-Communications in 2000. He joined NEC Corporation in 1983 and has been engaged in research on EMC (developing microwave wave absorber, anechoic chamber, shielding material and board design tool for reducing EMI), and Jisso (packaging) technologies. Now, he is a Senior Manager of System Jisso Research Laboratories, NEC Corporation. He is also a Guest Professor of Tokyo Institute of Technology. He is a member of IEEE, IEICE (The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers Society). Japan Institute of Electronics Packaging.

Vendor Speakers:
